Why do I need to authenticate with Facebook?

Facebook owns Instagram, including all Instagram functionalities. Direct publishing, analytics and feeds are only available to third parties via Facebook's API. Since Facebook requires all third parties to connect to a Facebook Page to gain access to Instagram functionalities, you will need to have a Facebook Page linked to your instagram Business profile.


How do I know if I have an Instagram Business profile?


Open your Instagram app, then:

  • Navigate to your profile by tapping on the icon at the bottom right-hand corner of your screen.
  • Tap on the three-line icon at the top right-hand corner of your main profile page and select “Settings”.
  • Select “Account” and scroll down to the bottom of your screen.
  • If you see “Switch to Personal Account” and “Switch to Creator Account” this means you are currently using a Business Profile and you won’t need to make any changes.
  • If you see “Switch to Professional Account” this means you are currently using a Personal Account and you will need to switch to a Business Account to be able to use any social media management tool.


How to convert your Instagram Personal account to a Business profile


You can convert your account to a Business Profile either via the Instagram mobile app, or via Facebook. A Facebook Page must be linked to your Instagram Business Profile to be able to use a third-party tool. That’s why we recommend converting to an Instagram Business Profile via your Facebook Page on your desktop.

Switch your account to a Business Profile via a Facebook Page on your desktop:

  • Open Facebook on your desktop and navigate to the Page you want to connect to your Instagram Business Profile to.
  • Click “Settings” at the top right-hand corner of the Page.
  • Click “Instagram” on the left-hand side.
  • Click “Connect Account” at the top of your screen.
  • Enter your Instagram login details and click “Log In”.
  • A pop-up window will appear to set up your Instagram Business Business Profile. Follow the instructions, enter your contact info and click on “Done”.


Switch your account to a Business Profile via the Instagram App:

  • Open the app and navigate to your profile by tapping on the icon at the bottom right-hand corner of your screen.
  • Tap on the three-line icon at the top right-hand corner of your main profile page and select “Settings”.
  • Select “Account” and tap on “Switch to Professional account” at the bottom of your screen.
  • Select “Business” under the “Which best describes you” screen.
  • DO NOT SKIP the “Connect your Facebook Page” screen! You will need to connect your Instagram Business Profile to a Facebook Page to be able to post through any third party.


Reconverting your Instagram Business profile

Sometimes Facebook may have not linked the profile and Page together correctly, so re-linking them together can usually resolve the issue.

Open your Instagram app, then:

  • Navigate to your profile by tapping on your profile picture at the bottom right-hand corner of your screen.
  • Tap on the three-line icon at the top right-hand corner of your main profile page and select “Settings”.
  • Select “Account” and scroll down to the bottom of your screen.
  • Tap on “Switch to Personal Account” and then on “Switch back” to confirm.


Open Facebook on your desktop, then:

  • Navigate to the Page you want to connect to your Instagram Business Profile.
  • Click “Settings” at the top right-hand corner of the Page.
  • Click “Instagram” on the left-hand side.
  • If there’s already an Instagram account connected, click “Disconnect” at the bottom of the screen.
  • Once you’ve disconnected your Instagram account, click “Connect Account” at the top of your screen.
  • Enter your Instagram login details and click “Log In”.
  • A pop-up window will appear to set up your Instagram Business Business Profile. Follow the instructions, enter your contact info and click on “Done”.
